All hands on deck after a very successful 2015 Hutchwilco Auckland Boat Show for McLay Boats
June 1 2015
After a somewhat manic lead up to the 2015 Hutchwilco Auckland Boat Show the boat show proved to be another great sales success for the McLay Boats dealer network. In the lead up to the show the final touches were added to the 701 Premier (see photo in article below) and 801 Premier which were displayed at the show.
The metallic powder blue 701 Premier really stood out and received many comments on its design, fittings and colour at the show. With many other McLay Boats at the show there was something for everyone.
After being launched at the Hutchwilco Auckland Boat Show last year, the CrossXovers continue to be a very sought after boat.
McLay Boats MD, Steve McLay said, “it was great to see and chat with everyone that was able to come and visit”.
For those who weren’t able to come and see the boats at the show please contact your local McLay Boats dealer or email firstname.lastname@example.org with your enquiry.
McLay Boats unveils all new top of the line boat package – Premier Series
May 1 2015
McLay Boats all new top of the line, Premier Series comes in two sizes, the 701 Premier and 801 Premier.
The idea for the Premier came to McLay Boats Managing Director, Steve McLay’s mind after the success of the smaller Sportsman range packages. It occurred to Steve that some people want to be able to see a price that includes everything they want and drive straight from the shop to the ocean or lake with it. These boats certainly have it all!
Both models come painted, with twin Mercury motors and trailers. They also come complete with a huge number of accessories such as storage, VHF, Radio, rocket launcher, Plumbed live bait tank , plumbed flush toilets among numerous other standard features. The 801 model even includes a drawer cabinet and fridge and is an ideal weekender.
The boats go as well as every other McLay but also have a new hull design that makes your boating experience even better.
What is even more exciting about these boats is that they are versatile enough to do whatever your boating requirements are, from fishing to water sports to diving you can do it all in style and comfort with a McLay Boats Premier Hardtop.
To try out one of these boats contact your nearest McLay Boats dealer to see how they can help you out.
Trade a Boats Australia VERY impressed after trialling a 611 Crossover
November 27 2014
Trade-a-boat had this to say "Launched earlier in 2014 at the Auckland Hutchwilco Boat Show, the CrossXover series of aluminium fishing / crossover boats from McLay Boats is now available in Australia.
This versatile collection of alloy trailerboats from New Zealand is built tough - as you'd expect - by Steve McLay's company, based way down in Otago on the South Island, where rugged conditions demand boats which endure. The finish of these beauties is anything but rugged, however."

McLay's 2014 Range Proves To Be A Real hit At The Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show
May 20 2014
Preparing for the boat show inevitably comes with added pressure and stress, but all that extra effort has been worthwhile this year for McLay Boats. Steve McLay said "We have had a very successful show selling over a million dollars worth of boats and we were busy nearly all show with enquiries.' The new CrossXover range of aluminium boats was well received and generated good interest. The new centre console models added to the Fortress range also proved popular. However Steve believes the success is really due to the combination of a great range of boats backed up by an experienced design and manufacturing team offering years of experience and excellent customer service.

The CrossXover series come packed with new features and options. This versatile range of boats is ideal for family, fishing, diving or towing water toys. What stands out most about the range is the clever combination of large cockpit space and cuddy cabin storage. But the innovation hasn't stopped there, McLay's has achieved what must be class-leading safety in this series by incorporating hundreds of litres of closed cell foam under the gunnels from the transom to the anchor bay as well as having underfloor buoyancy.
While packed with features, the CrossXover series offers surprisingly good value for money starting at just $23,956. NZD* for the 561, 5.75m model (boat only).
As always, McLay's recreational and fishing boats have lots of standard features that are normally extras on other brands. To see the full model range and specifications go to www.mclayboats.co.nz

Review McLay 1100 Walk Round
November 27 2012
It takes courage to commit to a completely new design in a very tough retail environment, especially when it's a design that departs so far from the production aluminium trailerboats your company is known for. But McLay Boat's gamble appears to have paid off.
The McLay 1100 stretches the limits of what's possible for a trailerable craft, but despite its imposing bulk it works well both on the water and on the road. Mercury Diesel TDI power, courtesy of the Audi/VW Q7/A6/Touareg family of V8 engines, provides brisk performance and admirable economy while keeping weight down.
The McLay 1100 is fully customisable and can be developed for any number of specialist applications. The boat's walk-around wheelhouse configuration screams fishing and as reviewed, the boat is packed with angling features: plenty of deck space, high sides, copious rodholders and sealed, easy-clean, non-slip decks should make this a practical sportfisher for recreational or professional charter applications.
Building such an ambitious boat on spec was a gamble for McLay Boats, but judging by the 1100's reception, it was worth taking. There's no doubt this new model takes the company into completely new territory, introducing an important player to the so-far relatively uncrowded maxi-trailerboat sector.

Pacific PowerBoat Magazine review - McLay 690HT Fishing Boat
November 26 2012
The main difference is that it is slightly wider, higher in the topsides and has a raised cockpit sole. This has allowed for a larger fuel tank up from 170 litres to 200 litres, an underfloor 'kill' tank and provision for a fresh water tank, plus still allowing for sufficient buoyancy. This would all have been impossible in the 680 as there would not have been enough buoyancy capacity retained under the sole.
These changes were very much customer driven, says McLay Boats MD, Steve McLay. While the 680 has been around in various versions for over ten years and has been our best seller it was time for a fresh new model.
However, in a sense the 690 has already been preceded by the 735S, a boat I tested last year. Big difference is the 735S is the inboard/stern drive version of the new 690, so just about everything from the cockpit forward is the same.
Under water the hull is very similar, albeit 80mm wider and the two pressed
strakes either side of the hull have been reduced by 50% in profile to provide a softer ride at speed. With the raised floor there is also an extra internal stringer either side of the 5mm hull and the weight has increased over the 680 by around 200kg.
Winner of the Aluminium Fishing Boat, 6 - 7 metres category, in the 2011 Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat show, the McLay 690 Cruiser Hardtop is one of nine boats in the McLay Hardtop CruiserSeries, which ranges from the 6.1m 600 through to the 8.1m 775.
Review - McLay Fortress Aluminium Dinghies
November 25 2012
The unique Mclay Fortress design allows for a sharper entry permitting a better ride and less spray. Reverse chines allows greater stability with a large deadrise. Floor height is reduced to the bottom of the boat resulting in lower center of gravity.
